Fantastic Tour company! Across Africa...

Fantastic Tour company! Across Africa offers all kinds of tours all over Africa. I just completed the 15 day Madagascar trip and it was excellent. Very nice properties with good food and a wonderful guide and driver and a perfectly curated trip. It was an amazing destination. Megan the manager was just excellent, she and her team took care of us the entire way, there were demonstrations in the capital and they moved our hotel to a peaceful property for our safety and enjoyment. I am very impressed with this company and would highly recommend and trust traveling with them. I am hoping to book again with them for Chad and Niger.. ...more ...less

01-Nov-2023

The all-included package with port and airport transfers was very good value. Masa was an exceptional guide. His intimate knowledge of the subway system allowed us to visit many more highlights than would have been possible without him. We were very comfortable and at ease throughout our trip while he shepherded us around Tokyo. Would not hesitate to recommend Masa and Across Africa Tours for Tokyo visits. ...more ...less

We had a once in...

19-Jan-2025

We had a once in a lifetime experience in Namibia and it wouldn't have been as good as it was without our guide Shawn. Shawn provided exceptional communication and information. His connections and knowledge of the country ensured we were treated like family. He went above and beyond more times than I could count. He even hiked Big Daddy with us! In summary, accommodations were great, food was good, sights were amazing, and Shawn made all the difference. ...more ...less

We used Across Africa for...

24-Oct-2024

We used Across Africa for our travel in Kruger National Park, Victoria Falls and Madagascar in October 2024. My wife and I envisioned a group on a bus waiting in lines. What joy we felt when we were the only ones on our tour. Communication was improved once I learned I was coordinating with Maureen in Addis Ababa. We started chatting on WhatsApp and all doubts were eliminated. Hotel choices were excellent, and while not always what we expected, we remember that we are in Africa where power comes from a generator and roads are dirt and challenging. We packed light and had 13 flights in our 1 month adventure. Not one flight was late, cancelled, or annoying. Food was provided on every flight once we left the USA. How does the happen? The local guides provided were great, and independently arranged by Across Africa. We only had to pay for tips and drinks. Transfers were fantastic I loved looking for my name on a card as we exited the baggage claim area. Hotel check ins were seamless, since Across Africa prepaid all hotels. It was my first trip to Africa. I probably could have put together this trip by myself, but I would not do so. I would have not saved money or time. Africa is a special place and requires a special person to make it work. Across Africa is special. ...more ...less

We had a great time...

29-Aug-2024

We had a great time during our tour to Namibia. The guide Silverius was respectful and professional. The itinerary was followed as planned. The lodges were all very good, especially Moon Mountain Lodge, which offers amazing views of the desert and where the food was excellent. I'd suggest replacing one of the hotels, Hotel A La Mer, which is not of the same standard (rooms were dark, dated and we could hear a lot of noise from the outside). ...more ...less

15-Apr-2024

The tour itself was good & I loved Goree Island but it was a super busy day with traffic and ferries not running on time. Our guide assured us we had plenty of time but we wasted it at lunch which was so slow, missed the ferry that would have gotten us back in time then bus was stuck in traffic making us almost miss the cruise ship. We got back 20mins after all aboard time ...more ...less

Major error of almost making...

02-Apr-2024

Major error of almost making us late to cruise ship, we made it by 1 minutes time after ship gave us 15 min more beyond final call. The tour guide definitely has time management issues, Goree Island ferries we did not board and get off at promised times and lunch took very long. Pretty stressful day but happy to see Dakar for what it is. ...more ...less

Start of the tour was...

25-Feb-2025

Start of the tour was very poor. No guide provided, only a driver. Received an email the night before that Mr Heinz specifically would be our guide , but he was not there. Driven to the Kolmanskoop ghost town. Nothing at all told to us. The group figured out from asking around we were expected to wait for the public tours offered by the park. After 1.5 hrs waiting around we did join of the park guided groups which was pretty good and informative. The group agreed to cut out after the first half and continue on the ‘tour’. Felt we had wasted a fair bit of our time waiting around. By this time the company had ‘found’ us a replacement guide. So on to Diaz point. At this point another couple that supposedly were on our tour had caught up via taxi. We had room at the very beginning but the company had by now shifted 2 more onto our van so now we were full. Not sure what exactly was going on with this issue but these folks had to continue on with their taxi. There was a bit more information provided from that point onward, but that information was only replayed to those in the front seats of the van. Those of us in the rear were out of luck. At least someone was in charge of the so called tour now. I suppose we ended up seeing the things we paid to see. The lunch stop at the resort (not included) was a very nice stop but most could have waited until return to the ship probably. I would not take or recommend this provider for a tour. Too many issues and lack of any organization for my liking. We saw what we paid for warranting some stars, but it was a poor overall experience. ...more ...less

I paid in full upfront...

12-Jul-2024

I paid in full upfront (about a month prior) to book a day trip from a niche location where other tour providers weren't available. Unfortunately, my visa did not arrive in time and I had to cancel my entire trip a couple of days before my flight left. The purpose of the trip has passed, so it's not an option for me to reschedule. Even though I notified Across Africa Tours a week in advance, I did not receive any money back. They cited a policy that was never shared upfront and states that it can be changed at any time without notice to customers. They instead issued a coupon that expires in one year, which I will be surprised if I can use. It's pretty unfortunate that they kept all of my money even though the visa issue was out of my control and the policy was hidden. Other tour activities I've seen recently allow 24-72 hour cancellation for a full refund. I might be able to understand Across Africa's policy if it was a weeklong or longer tour commitment, but it was only a part-day excursion for one person. They seem happy to push all of the risk onto the customer. Lesson learned: wait to pay at the last minute! ...more ...less
