Starting in the lively beach resort of Legian, your journey continues north into the jungle-covered mountains. Climb Mount Batur for spectacular sunrise views and attend a cooking masterclass in Ubud before taking a speed boat to Gili Trawangan – a tiny island off the coast of Lombok. Return to Bali and cap off your trip with an optional surf lesson, traditional beachfront blessing ceremony and an unforgettable farewell dinner in Canggu. Touch down at Ngurah Rai International Airport and make your way to the meeting point where a driver will be waiting to take you to the hotel in Legian (if you’ve booked your transfer with us). Check-in and get settled. At 5pm, meet our Local Insider who will accompany the group throughout the trip. You’ll receive an introductory talk alongside your fellow travellers, before heading to the hotel restaurant by the beach for a welcome dinner and cocktail – a perfect way to break the ice.

Day 2 : Take Part In A Balinese Offering And Take An Immersive Village Trek

After breakfast, you’ll depart for Jatiluwih – a Unesco World Heritage-listed expanse of rice terraces, situated 700m (2,296ft) above sea level at the foot of Mount Batukaru (the second-highest peak in Bali). There, you’ll learn first-hand about the process of preparing Canang Sari (a traditional, hand-made Balinese offering) and place one of these sacred symbols of gratitude at Batukaru Temple. In the afternoon, embark on a scenic ride through the surrounding rice fields by e-bike, observing the farmers at work. You’ll then continue further into the highlands toward Munduk, your home for the night.

Day 3 : Swim And Enjoy A Picnic At The Banyumala Twin Waterfalls

This morning, you’ll visit the Banyumala Twin Waterfalls. These 40m (131ft) tall, side-by-side waterfalls are some of the most alluring on the island, set against the backdrop of dense tropical rainforest. The rock pool below is an idyllic spot to cool off with a refreshing swim before enjoying a delicious picnic of nasi bungkus (rice wrapped in a banana leaf, typically served with meat and vegetables) – an Indonesian classic. After lunch, you’ll be transferred to the town of Ubud – often regarded as Bali’s cultural heart due to its flourishing arts, crafts and dance scene.

Ready to get flexible with some FlyHighYoga? Pioneered in Ubud in 2012, this aerial style of yoga uses elasticated belts to enable all kinds of unusual stretches, leaving you feeling revitalised and relaxed. If yoga isn’t for you, don’t worry – grab a drink at the studio cafe and watch from the side. Spend a few hours exploring Ubud or relaxing by the pool before attending a cooking masterclass in the afternoon. Day 5 : Climb Mount Batur And Watch The Sunrise

It’s a very early start today as you'll head to Mount Batur and begin a guided hike up the 1,717m (5,633ft) high active volcano. Upon reaching the summit, your efforts will be rewarded with mesmerising panoramic views as the island glows beneath the rising sun. Depending on the weather, you may even find yourself above the clouds for an even more dramatic spectacle. At the bottom, tuck into a well-deserved lakeside breakfast. Afterwards, it’s time to return to the coast for the next stop of your journey – Candidasa.

Day 6 : Explore Lempuyang Temple And Tirta Gangga Royal Water Gardens

Today, you’ll have the chance to explore a beloved island landmark, Lempuyang Temple. It’s renowned for its Gates of Heaven, which perfectly frame Mount Agung, Bali’s highest peak, making for an unmissable photo opportunity. Next, you’ll stop by Tirta Gangga, an elegant collection of fountains, gardens and statues at a former royal palace. Take a dip in the spring-fed pool to cool off from the heat. Spend the afternoon at leisure back at the hotel – either on the beach or by the palm-tree flanked pool.

Day 7 : Catch A Speed Boat To Gili Trawangan*

Say a temporary goodbye to Bali this morning as you catch a speedboat from Padang Bai to Gili Trawangan (around a 90-minute journey). Although it’s the largest of the three islands in the Gili archipelago, just off the northwest coast of Lombok, Gili T – as the locals call it – is only 3km long and 2km wide, home to a population of just 1,500 people. With its pristine beaches, gentle waters and vibrant nightlife, you’ll experience a totally different side to Indonesia in this tropical haven.
* Please note that in the event of extreme weather conditions, we have to re-route our Gili trip to stay overnight in Amed.

Day 8 : Spot Sea Turtles And Underwater Statues On A Snorkelling Trip

Following breakfast, head out on a snorkelling trip. The islands are home to an abundance of turtles – keep your eyes peeled as you swim through the clear water. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot green turtles, but also keep an eye out for hawksbills (a critically endangered species recognisable by their narrow, pointed beaks). Clean equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Along Gili Meno’s west coast, you’ll also find a circle of 48 life-size stone statues on the seabed – a captivating exhibition designed to help coral and marine life flourish.

Day 9 : Explore Gili Trawangan Or Chill By The Pool

In the mood for rest and relaxation? Spend today however you like. Unwind by the pool, practise yoga or book yourself a rejuvenating massage at the spa. Alternatively, use the time to explore Gili Trawangan at your own pace. You’ll be able to walk round the entire island in a couple of hours, or you can rent bikes and cycle (there are no motorised vehicles here). Come nightfall, wrap up your beach break with cocktails and a barbecue.

Day 10 : Return To Bali And Arrive In Canggu

You’ll return to Bali this morning, departing Gili Trawangan for Padang Bai by speedboat after a leisurely breakfast. From there, continue on to Canggu – the final stop of your trip. After checking into the hotel, you’ll have the rest of the afternoon to explore this laid-back surf resort, known for trendy cafes, colourful street art and a plethora of boutique shops. Wander through town, take a stroll along the beach or chill poolside. It’s entirely up to you.
Day 11 : Learn To Surf And Experience A Balinese Blessing Ceremony

Kick-start the final full day of your trip by taking an optional surfing lesson. With mellow and predictable waves (particularly around Echo Beach and Batu Bolong), it’s a great spot for beginners. Later on, visit a local temple to take part in a traditional Balinese blessing ceremony with a mangku (priest). At the end of this spiritual experience, the priest will add a tridatu (a three-colour bracelet) to your wrist, symbolising the circle of life. Cap off the trip with a sumptuous farewell group dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 12 : Depart From Canggu

What happens if I am travelling on my own?
Most accommodations on our trips are reserved on a twin share basis. Therefore, if you are travelling on your own you will be sharing a room with another Culture Trip traveller of the same sex. However, most of the time it is possible to pay a supplement for your own room. Please ask your Travel Expert for more information.

Tips are not included in the price of your trip but are entirely optional and at your discretion.

Are flights / transport to the destination included?
No - our travellers come from all over the world so flights and / or transport to the start destination are not included.

Is there any age limit on the Trips?
You must be 25 or over to travel on our trips, however there is no upper age limit. You just need a sense of adventure.

Do I need to buy travel insurance?
Yes - all travellers must have travel insurance before they join one of our trips. You are strongly advised to take out your policy at the time of booking to protect your holiday payments in the event of cancellation.

What happens if I need to amend or cancel my booking?
You can change the date of your tour up to 60 days prior to departure and cancel at any time, although cancellation conditions may apply.

How much money should I bring?
This will depend on how long your trip is, your destination and how much you intend to spend on personal expenses and any meals that aren’t included. It is a good idea to check out the cost of a local lunch and dinner in your destination before you travel.

What kind of luggage should I bring?
It depends on the type of trip you have booked, but we usually recommend a soft sided bag or case as they are easier to handle on a trip.

When will I know if my trip is guaranteed?
We usually wait until we have a few travellers booked on a trip before we guarantee it will run. The latest we will guarantee a trip is 60 days ahead of departure, often it will be long before.

What visas do I need?
Depending on your passport and your destination, you may need a visa to travel on one of our trips. It is up to you to ensure you have any and all necessary visas before you travel. We recommend you check with a specialist visa agency at least 6 weeks before you travel.

How many meals are included?
Breakfast is included daily and then depending on your itinerary, some lunches and dinners. This is clearly indicated in the trip details or ask your Travel Expert to confirm.

What is not included in the trip?
We don’t include the following in our trips: insurance (however you must have insurance to travel on one of our trips), flights, tips for local guides, optional activities and other meals and services not mentioned in your itinerary.

What is the group size?
Our maximum group size is 18, although our average group size is 10-12 people. Group travel is a great way to meet other people, and you will have the safety of travelling with a group, but you can also decide how much time you want to spend by yourself.

Will there always be a guide on the trip?
Absolutely yes. We pride ourselves on our expert Local Insiders - they are an integral part of what makes our trips so special. Your Local Insider will accompany you throughout the trip and is there to help and assist in any way possible as well as ensure everything works to time.

Are airport transfers included?
Your arrival transfer from Ngurah Rai (Denpasar) Airport (DPS) to your start hotel is not included. If you would like to add an arrival transfer onto your booking, you can contact our Travel Experts who will be able to assist. If you would prefer to make your own way to the hotel, taxis are available at the airport. The hotel is located 10 kms (6 miles) from the airport and the journey takes approximately 15 minutes. A shuttle service also operates from the airport to the hotel and tickets can be purchased online. Your departure airport transfer from your end hotel back to Ngurah Rai (Denpasar) Airport (DPS) is not included. If you would like to add a departure transfer onto your booking, you can contact our Travel Experts who will be able to assist. If you would prefer to make your own way back to the airport, your Local Insider or the hotel reception will be able to arrange a taxi for you.

We use a mix of public and private transport on our trips, but usually a small and comfortable minibus, so we can access more remote destinations that larger groups can’t get to.

I booked but cannot travel anymore. What are the amendments and cancellation options?
We understand plans can change and that’s why we offer flexible booking conditions. You can change or cancel your booking at any time up to 56 days prior to departure and receive a full refund of any funds you have already paid towards your trip.

Do I have to make full payment at the time of booking?
You do not have to make full payment at the time of booking. We only require a small, fully refundable deposit of $100 to secure your spot on the trip. Full payment is due at the latest 56 days prior to departure.

Do I have to take part in all the activities? Will there be free time on my trip?
The amount of free time varies per trip. Please enquire with our travel experts to get a proper understanding on the amount of free time on the trips you are interested in. You do not have to take part in all activities but we strongly encourage you to do so! We have carefully crafted each trip to show you the best of every destination, so you’d be missing out! Also taking part in activities is a great way to get to know your travel companions and make new friends. Nothing like a positive and supportive group environment to venture outside of your comfort zone and surprise yourself!
