Tour Overview

From neon-lit skyscrapers to bamboo forests dotted with ancient temples, there’s nowhere quite like Japan. This 12-day trip will take you from the foodie capital of Osaka to the city lights of Tokyo, and even down to the floating Torii Gate of Miyajima Island, which sits in Hiroshima Bay. Along the way, you’ll get to see geishas in Kyoto, sample sake in Takayama and hang out with sumo wrestlers in the capital. You’ll get the chance to stay in a range of hotels and sing your heart out at karaoke alongside your fellow travellers. How can we squeeze so much into one itinerary? You have Japan’s incredible train networks to thank. Prepare to get your steps in on this one, too, since the other way to explore Japan at its best is by exploring on your own two feet.

Highlights

  • Experience the comfort, efficiency and thrill of riding the bullet train

  • Uncover Hiroshima’s past at the Peace Park and Museum

  • See the floating Torii Gate and deer on Miyajima Island

  • Hike through bamboo forests and the endless gates of Fushimi Inari

  • Soak in an Onsen in the Japanese Alps

  • Admire views of Mount Fuji from Lake Ashi

  • Explore the backstreets of Kyoto and see geishas

  • Are flights / transport to the destination included?

No - our travellers come from all over the world so flights and / or transport to the start destination are not included.

We don’t include the following in our trips: insurance (however you must have insurance to travel on one of our trips), flights, tips for local guides, optional activities and other meals and services not mentioned in your itinerary.

  • What kind of luggage should I bring?

It depends on the type of trip you have booked, but we usually recommend a soft sided bag or case as they are easier to handle on a trip.

Also taking part in activities is a great way to get to know your travel companions and make new friends. Nothing like a positive and supportive group environment to venture outside of your comfort zone and surprise yourself!

  • What is a Local Insider?

That’s why we only work with local guides - whom we name our Local Insiders. They know their region inside out and have a passion for sharing it with travellers. All our Local Insiders have years of experience guiding and speak English. Importantly, they like to travel the way we like it too: away from crowds, tourist traps and queues. Focussing on the true essence of a destination, teaching you all about the local culture and profusely sharing local hidden gems and insights.

We highly recommend Culture Trip

13-Feb-2023

We did a Japan tour with our guide Yoshi in Dec. He was fantastic! Yoshi was super friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. He introduced us Japanese history, culture and local cuisine. We liked the flexibility and being able to change the itinerary as we desired. Our teens had a blast on the trip and already asking when we can go back to visit Japan.

Hope and Katie

Our tour guides were the best !

25-May-2023

I just got back home from Japan. My daughter and I took the grand tour trip. Our tour guides were the best ! Kiriko and Kaori . We saw almost everything we wanted to see on our trip. This trip has a lot of perks. There was one issue with the trip. We thought it was a bud your. Later we were told it would be a tour by train. What was not disclosed was the fact that our group walked several miles a day. My daughter and I and one other person in our group had a disability. All the walking was exhausting and painful. Please let’s people know that this tour has slot of waking .
