Itinerary
Day 1 : Start Bangkok
Location: Bangkok
Accommodation: Hotel
Accommodation Name: New Siam Palace Ville Hotel (or similar)
This family adventure, like so many before it, starts in Bangkok, the enthralling capital of Thailand. There is a welcome meeting this evening with our tour leader, where we meet as a group for the first time, followed by an optional group dinner. If you have time after your arrival, you may want to walk (20 minutes) to The Grand Palace, an ornate complex once used by royals, or take a refreshing dip in the hotel pool.
Accommodation: New Siam Palace Ville Hotel (or similar)
Day 2 : Leisurely Cycle In Bang Krachao, Bangkok's Jungle Oasis; Evening Street Food Tour
Location: Bangkok
Accommodation Name: New Siam Palace Ville Hotel (or similar)
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner
This morning, we take the Skytrain and a short ferry hop across the Chao Phraya River to Bang Krachao, a human-made jungle island. This oasis provides a welcome space to unwind in a city primarily known for its bright lights and electric atmosphere.
The best way to explore is by bike, so we take a leisurely cycle (approximately 1.8mi-3mi/3km-5km) along flat pathways, visiting the Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park, home to fish ponds and bike trails.
In the evening, we discover Bangkok on a leisurely walk around the old town, where we see architecture dating from the King Rama V era plus the Giant Swing, a grand Brahman monument once used for ceremonial purposes.
That’s followed by a street food tour for dinner, in which we stall hop to sample a selection of the tastiest Thai dishes. Options could include crispy pork noodles, dumplings and the much-loved mango with sticky rice, a must try in Thailand!
Accommodation: New Siam Palace Ville Hotel (or similar)
Day 3 : Damnoen Saduak Floating Market; Transfer To Kanchanaburi; Dinner On A Floating Restaurant By The River Kwai
Location: Kanchanaburi
Accommodation Name: River Kwai Bridge Resort (or similar)
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner
We leave Bangkok after breakfast, transferring (approximately two hours) to Damnoen Saduak, where we board boats and meander through the most famous floating market in Thailand, which is located on the Damnoen Saduak canal. At this 100-year-old market, we can watch the vendors go about their daily business and, perhaps, buy some fresh fruit from them.
We continue to Kanchanaburi (approximately three hours), an area of natural beauty that’s popular with families for its caves, waterfalls, river trips and, for the adults, Second World War history.
Along the way, we have a short stop at the Kanchanaburi war museum and cemetery, where we have the chance to pay our respects to the thousands killed constructing the Death Railway.
This evening, we dine at a floating restaurant by the river overlooking the River Kwai Bridge, which was reconstructed after the war and recreated in the Oscar-winning war film The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), an ideal opportunity to take in our tranquil surroundings and reflect on the day.

After, the adventure continues as we take a one-hour transfer to Erawan National Park. The picturesque waterfalls here are named after Erawan, the multi-headed white elephant from the Hindu religion, which the seven-tiered cascades are said to resemble. Your time is free to enjoy the views, swim, or walk to the top of the falls (1.25mi/2km, approximately a two-hour round trip).

Accommodation
For this family trip in Thailand, we have selected hotels and resorts for their location and character. Most have swimming pools and there is the opportunity to swim at the beach near our hotel in Koh Samui.
Accommodation on this trip includes:
10 nights in handpicked hotels and resorts
Two nights on a sleeper train
The accommodations typically used are found on the day-to-day itinerary. However, below are a few notable places we stay on this trip.
Bangkok: New Siam Palace Ville Hotel (nights 1-2 and 12)
In the Old Town of Bangkok, this calm, family-friendly property is within walking distance of several attractions including Khao San Road and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The outdoor pool provides the perfect place to chill before or after your explorations.
Kanchanaburi: River Kwai Bridge Resort (nights 3-4)
With riverside spots to eat and drink plus a tranquil swimming pool, this peaceful resort is the ideal place to relax. Wander through the gardens or simply chill post-exploration in your air-conditioned room.
Koh Samui: Am Samui Palace Resort (nights 8-10)
Surrounded by lush gardens, this peaceful, family-friendly resort is the ideal spot to unwind during our three-night stay on Koh Samui. It has a swimming pool and is in the heart of Lamai Beach, just two minutes’ walk from the market and the white sandy beach!
Overnight sleeper train
We spend two nights on the sleeper train, the best way to travel long distances (north to south round-trip) with the local people. We stay in shared air-conditioned carriages; each sleeping berth has a privacy curtain, while sleeping sheets, a blanket and pillow are provided. Snacks are often offered on board, including in the dining car (at an additional cost).
Worth knowing
There may be instances when you want a single room. Perhaps a grandparent needs one, or parents of a family of three or five want to ensure they get a bit of space! Single supplements are available upon request (see price below). Please advise at the time of booking. A single room is available on hotel nights only.
While we do our best to ensure families are roomed close together (in some cases, we can arrange adjoining rooms), we can’t guarantee this. Most family trips occur during peak season and we sometimes have little control over where you are put.
