Day 1 : Start Moneglia.

Location: Moneglia

Accommodation: Hotel

Accommodation Name: Piccolo Hotel

Meals Included: Dinner

We begin in the charming seaside town of Moneglia. Beautifully located in the

heart of a bay on the Mediterranean sea, the picture-postcard town is listed

since 2012 on the 'I Borghi Più Belli d'Italia' (Most Beautiful Villages of

Italy) and has been awarded the European Blue Flag every year since 1990,

for its clear waters and the quality of the services offered.

Day 2 : Follow The Coastal Trail Between Deiva Marina And The Villages Of Framura And Bonassola

Location: Deiva Marina, Framura, Bonassola

Accommodation: Hotel

Accommodation Name: Piccolo Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

In the morning we take a short train to Deiva Marina and start our walk

through holm oak forests and maquis shrubland. The walk begins with a

relatively steep path, climbing up to picturesque woods of pine and

strawberry trees. Our efforts will be rewarded at the top of the hill with

stunning panoramic views of the coastline and the Promontory of Portofino.

We will then take an ondulating trail that offers beautiful views over the

Ligurian Sea and leads to the village of Framura, where we stop for

lunch. After the refreshments, we descend by steps almost to sea level then

meander through woods until a final steep climb for magnificent views of the

sea. We then head to the pretty village of Bonassola before taking the train

back to our hotel in Moneglia.

Day 3 : Take The Train To Cinque Terre N.P; Walk The Stunning Paths To Some Of Liguria's Prettiest Villages.

Location: Cinque Terre, Liguria

Accommodation: Hotel

Accommodation Name: Piccolo Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

Today we will set out to visit the spectacular Cinque Terre (Five Lands), one

of Italy's most beautiful 'works of art', declared a UNESCO World Heritage

Site in 1997 and part of the Cinque Terre National Park. The best way to

explore these charming villages is on foot, and today we will walk on the

famous Sentiero Azzurro Ligure (Ligurian Blue Path), which connects the five

villages.

Today we will visit three of the five, namely Corniglia, Vernazza and

Monterosso, and we will pass along old mule tracks, walking through terraced

vineyards and olive groves. After completing some steep and rocky sections,

we will be rewarded with wonderful views of the colourful villages, built

into the rocks facing the sea. Please note that some sections of the path

may be closed so we may need to take the train between villages or change

the itinerary accordingly.

At the end of the walk, we catch the train back to Moneglia where there will

be time to relax or go for a swim before dinner.

Day 4 : Walk On The Portofino Promontory And Explore The World-Renowned Fishing Village Of Portofino Itself.

Location: Santa Margherita Ligure

Accommodation: Hotel

Accommodation Name: Piccolo Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

This morning we will set out by train to Santa Margherita Ligure, a charming

coastal town, where we will begin our hike to the fishing village of

Portofino. Famous for its pastel-coloured houses and picturesque harbour, the

town is now attracting celebrities from all over the world.

Day 5 : Free Day To Relax, Take Optional Walks Or Visiting Nearby Portovenere Or Genova.

Location: Genoa

Accommodation: Hotel

Accommodation Name: Piccolo Hotel

Today you will enjoy a well-earned break and perhaps spend your day relaxing

at the beach. Those with more energy might like to use the opportunity for

some sightseeing. Genoa, the region’s capital city, home of Christopher

Columbus and the largest aquarium in Europe is not be missed. Alternatively,

you could spend some time in the near town of Porto Venere, referred to being

one of the stops in the "Bay of Poets"  or use the day to visit the

beautiful town of Lucca, located further away.

Day 6 : Transfer To Rapallo By Train, Take The Cable Car Up Montallegro For Fantastic Views And Walk Down To Chiavari, Afternoon Wine Tasting.

Location: Rapallo, Chiavari

Accommodation: Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

This morning we will take a short train ride to Rapallo and the cable car up

to the sanctuary of Montallegro (600 mt). From here we will set out on a walk

through quiet woodland, catching glimpses of the Ligurian sea en route to the

seaside town of Chiavari. In the early evening we will have the chance to

enjoy the local speciality at our well-deserved wine tasting!

Day 7 : Return To The Cinque Terre Area For An Alternative Walk Through Glorious Coastline And Colourful Villages.

Location: Cinque Terre

Accommodation: Hotel

Accommodation Name: Piccolo Hotel

Meals Included: Breakfast

This morning we will head back to the famous Cinque Terre to walk some of the

quieter, alternative trails. The exact path you will walk will depend on

local track conditions, but they are generally on higher ground than the

Reviews from travellers on this tour

Steep walks, good food, great guide!

This was a great holiday walking in lovely country

This was a great holiday walking in lovely countryside by the coast and visiting the picturesque villages of the Cinque Terre and Portofino. The walks themselves were usually very steep and would not suit everyone, a good level of fitness is required although you don't need to be a mountaineer. The hotel in Moneglia is on the beach and we were able to swim after the walk every day. I was away during the first week of October, I didn't see any rain and the average daily temperature was 24-25C but the previous week had been wet so no guarantees!

An excellent week in every way - sunny weather, wonderfully scenic walks along coastal paths, through forests and across high terraces and a good hotel base in Moneglia where a number of restaurants offered a choice for evening meals. On the “free” day we took the boat from Monterosso to Porto Venere which enabled us to see all the villages from the sea and recognise some of the paths we’d walked.

Walking Cinque Terre and Porofino

A very well organised trip and excellent guide who was always decisive and unruffled when there were changes forced on her by weather or authorities. The hotel in Moneglia was very good, serving a good evening meal on the first night and a wide selection of breakfast food in the mornings. Moneglia was certainly quieter than the places we visited during week, so was quite restful. Travelling by train to each start point was enjoyable and quick in comparison to road travel around the area. The walks I would have said were graded a bit low at 3, certainly the steps and rocky climbs and descents needed a good set of knees and or walking poles, walking boots essential. Not a set of walks for trainers, though one did see idiots in insubstantial footwear attempting them. Wonderful views of the villages of the Cinque Terre and coastline as the walks progressed. Walk to Portofino was pleasant but the place was quite crowded even in May as we experienced . Three cruise ships anchored in the bay on one day would not have helped matters. If you don't mind being organised by someone and can go with the flow this is an excellent trip. We did not have to pay for anything in terms of travel during the days apart from lunch on the those when packed lunches were not provided. On the basis on this trip which was my first with Exodus I would definitely consider other tours with them.

I LOVED this trip...my 10th with Exodus but my first walking holiday, and there was so much to enjoy. The walks were tough and I was nervous; I'm used to walking much further but not used to such steep hills and the many, many steps. But though my legs were often screaming, it was well worth it and I'd highly recommend the trip and the area. The hotel was nice, rooms simple but had everything I needed, the town we stayed quiet but lovely, the restaurants are all fantastic in the town, and the beach is lovely - and it's a rare thing for a beach to not be dominated by the Italian 'beach clubs' that usually take up most of the best spots. The wine tasting is a very special evening.

What an amazing time - from the lovely Moneglia (Piccola Hotel) to the amazing walks so expertly guided by Michela Wicks. It was really everything and more than we wished for. Would never have chosen to do it differently. No time was lost or wasted pondering. Our time there was precious.

This was a wonderful week. The scenery is magnificent and the Cinque Terre villages are as beautiful as i hoped, despite the crowds you can still appreciate the unique atmosphere and architecture of these tiny villages. Several times we walked through lovely flowers or woods. The hotel is just across the road from a Blue Flag beach with safe swimming , lovely after a hard walk. Local food is tasty and affordable and especially good if you like anchovies and ice cream (not together!) The walking is strenuous going up the cliffs at the start of the day and down at the end, but there is plenty of time allowed and the "level" parts are well surfaced and easy. I really reccommend this holiday.

We joined the majority of our group mid-Sept with Michela in Pisa. An informal meet and greet and an idea as to what to expect was laid out each day. As quoted by our fearless leader 'A little bit of up and then we level off' this was - pretty much the start of every glorious day. Michela was a great guide - easy going, kept us on point and moving at a comfortable pace. A couple of the days were more steep than others, it was super hot when we were there which didn't help. On a cooler day, the up's would have been a lot more tolerable. The last day provided some amazing views. Moneglia is a cute/quiet town with great options for dining - the host hotel was super comfortable and crazy clean!

Beautiful scenery and rewarding walks

A very pleasant week exploring the coastal walks.

A very pleasant week exploring the coastal walks. Emily, our guide, was very well prepared and flexed the week to suit recent feedback, weather and the needs of the group members. Due to the hot weather, several of the walks were strenuous in places, but always rewarded us with spectacular views.
