One day walking through the virgin mountain forests with my son Gerardo Abel, founder of the reserve, we discovered a beautiful hidden waterfall, protected by its difficult access and enriched by a magical legend. It immediately captivated our spirit and heart, and we identified with it. Topoxté is located on an island in the Yaxhá Lagoon, very close to the important archaeological site of Yaxhá.

Topoxté received its name from archaeologist and Mayanist Teobert Maler, in 1904;3 from its meaning in the Mayan language "seed of the Ramón tree". There is no previous record of this name, being an important forage tree for the Maya because of the frequent use of its leaves and seeds as a food supplement.3 Prior to this denomination, the site was known as Islapag, according to Juan Galindo in 1831 in a scientific report.

It is said that this site was inhabited by people of very short stature since the size of the structures is extremely low for a person of average height.

Great tour company! Very friendly and accommodating!

26-Jun-2023

I reached out to Hector with GTM Tour Guide and Travel Services a couple of months before a large family reunion in Guatemala City and Antigua to help me coordinate a tour itinerary and private transportation from GC to Antigua and back. Hector was amazing to work with and was always so accommodating with our group's ever-changing needs. I highly recommend coordinating with GTM for large groups like ours, and Hector put me at ease since I had over 20 family members coming together in Guatemala, and I lived in the States. We arranged a private Guatemala City bus tour on Sunday with Don Armando who was a lively Guatemalan for our group who showed us the sights of the City from the comfort of a private A/C bus. Hector also volunteered to put car seats in the bus for the young toddlers in the group. As plans typically change with a large family reunion, the number of passengers going from GC to Antigua increased, and Hector had no issues with securing a larger private bus for our group. We also did a walking tour with Don Armando in Antigua; however, I should have requested 2 tour guides because we had almost 18 people (baby strollers, senior citizens, etc...) and that was a little difficult to maneuver with the cobblestone streets and narrow sidewalks with that many people, but Don Armando kept things moving and interesting. Hector and his group reached out to me during the week to make sure everything was good and if we needed anything. I really felt that I had a tour partner while we were in Guatemala. THANK YOU SO MUCH! ...more ...less

Reliable and accomodating! Highly recommend.

This company is fantastic! They are easy to communicate with, and they are quick to respond. We used them for transport from the airport in Guatemala City to the city of Antigua and everything went smoothly with their driver waiting for us with a clear sign bearing our name as soon as we arrived. In addition, we had an urgent need to travel back to the city at the last minute and I asked them if they could arrange a last minute transport (the night before) and they came through for us! I highly recommend them and would definitely use them again. ...more ...less
