Day 1: Arrive Reykjavik (-/-/-)

Location: Reykjavik

Accommodation Name: hotel

Welcome to Reykjavik! Upon arrival at Keflavik International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel by the Flybus Shuttle Bus for check-in. Enjoy the day at leisure to discover the city at your own pace. Ingolfur Arnarson, the first settler of Iceland, built his farm on the peninsula where Reykjavík stands today. The town learned its name “Smokey Bay” after columns of steam rose from hot springs in the area and made quite the impression on the first settlers. Reykjavik offers a multitude of restaurants and/or coffee-houses, making dinner a great way to get better acquainted with Iceland's capital.

Overnight in Reykjavik

Embark on an easy hike to the top of Grabrok Volcano Crater, believed to be formed in a fissure eruption around 3400 years ago. At the top, you will discover breathtaking views of Borgarfjordur and the encircling mountain. In the afternoon you will visit a natural history sand seal museum in the fishing village of Hvammstangi. Further north you can stop at the turf church of Vidimyri. From there you will continue along the scenic fjord landscape over several mountain passes to reach Akureyri, the capital of North Iceland. Explore the town of Akureyri as you spend the night.

Formed by the River Skjalfandafljot, the water here falls from a height of 12 meters over a width of 30 meters. Next, you will explore Lake Myvatn, referred to as a geological wonderland for its abundance of birdlife. Discover the strange lava formations at Kalfastrond, the pseudo craters at Skutustadir, and the tephra cone Hverfjall. End your afternoon relaxing in the geothermal Myvatn Nature Baths with a fantastic view over the entire area.

This morning you will walk through the lava labyrinth in the dark castles of Dimmuborgir. Catch a glimpse of trolls who are said to live there. The unusually shaped rock formations and volcanic caves, reminiscent of an ancient collapsed citadel, were the perfect background for HBOs fantasy TV Series “Game of Thrones”. In the afternoon, visit the hot spring area of Namaskard, home to bubbling mud pools and steaming solfataras. Head through the uninhabited highlands and moon-like surroundings to East Iceland. From June to August this tour includes a detour to the powerful waterfall Dettifoss.

Day 6: Hofn - Hella (B/-/-)

Explore the extraordinary site where you may notice seals swimming in arctic waters. From May through September, a boat tour between floating icebergs will be included in the program. Just across the street, you can walk along the so-called Diamond Beach, where large icebergs get stranded. Travel along the southern part of the Vatnajokull Glacier and catch a glimpse of Europes second-largest National Park. This park is home to the highest mountains in Iceland, an alpine environment, and the largest glacier in Europe.

In the afternoon you will head on a beautiful drive where many natural wonders await. Head across the Eldhraun Lava Field and cross the sandy desert of the Southern Coast, overlooked by mountainous cliffs, glaciers, and waterfalls. Stroll along the black lava beach of Reynisfjara. In the small village of Skogar, you will find the Skogafoss Waterfall which is 60 meters high and one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country. Continue to the high but narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall which plunges over the mountain. There is an interesting trail that goes behind the fall – take it if you are prepared to get wet! Further west, you will stop at the Lava Centre to learn about Icelands volcanic activity.

The steams from these bubbling pools and hot springs can be seen from a distance. The original geyser is now dormant but has been replaced by Strokkur “the Churn” which erupts every five- or ten minutes throwing water up to 30mts in the air. Continue your journey to Gullfoss, “The Golden Falls “, which is a double waterfall tumbling 32 meters into the Hvita River. Travel inland to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thanks to Indus and Nicko Cruise for a great trip down the Danube. I had not been on a river cruise prior to this and found it a very relaxing way to travel and see some European highlights. The ship was superb. The staff served great meals, were friendly and accommodating. As far as the tours and city visits, they all gave us a reasonable amount of time and insight into the location we were visiting to come away with a sense that we had a good glimpse of the city and were able to spend some free time in the city as well. A special thanks to Dhruv our fearless leader from Indus who was a great organizer. Lastly - nice to meet all of you in our group. terry

Booked Mystical Egypt tour with them visiting Cairo and a 03 Nights Cruise from Luxor to Aswan in May. All services were perfect since the time we arrived at the airport, we were met by a hospitable Indus Representative who helped us with the purchase of local SIM and currency exchange. He was always there in time to assist for transfers. The Amwaj Cruise which we took from Luxor to Aswan was a Gem. We had great guides and all sightseeing worked like a clockwork. We enjoyed visiting Karnak Temples, Temples of Edfu, Kom Ombo and the boat ride to see Phillae Temple. Evening entertainment on cruise were great and engaging. In Cairo and Aswan, we had ample leisure time to explore on own, the Pyramids were impressive and visiting Khan e Khalili was fun. Overall and impressive and enjoyable tour, Thanks to Indus Travels!

Recently went on a Rhine River Cruise, a first for me. I must say the experience was exceptional, their tagline says. The group I was with were some of the most fun and interesting set of people I've ever traveled with. The ground transportation arrangements were top notch and comfortable. Variety in menu that we were provided with in the cruise was astounding. I was a bit worried if they'd have much options for me as I'm a vegetarian. But they not only had options, the taste was something I'd savor for foreseeable future. There's a reason Rhine cruises are popular owing to it's serene and picturesque route. Guided tours were very informative and gave us a bit of an insight of German culture. We had good amount of time to explore the towns on our own too. Strasbourg and Cochem were my favorite stops. Luckily the weather worked in our favour and it didn't rain the way it was predicted originally. No one from our group wanted the tour to end. If this trip was any indication, I can't wait to book my next trip with Indus Travels.

Indus Travel runs a highly professional organization. From customer service to brochures, bookings, tour guides, etc. and the consideration for their customers is superb. This was the first time I had travelled with Indus Travels. We took the Taste of Portugal Tour. Group numbers are small, accommodation comfortable and food excellent. The expert guide who accompanied us was outstanding - passionate, informative, engaging, and entertaining. This company is obviously at the heart of the itinerary planning, and attention to detail is second to none. I would highly recommend this company to anyone wanting a fun, relaxed, educational vacation with fine food - they will deliver! We will never forget this trip and we are already planning for another one to Wonders of Italy, Vienna, Budapest, and Prague.

We were looking for a customized, small group tour. We took a chance on Indus without knowing much about the company. We just returned from our trip to Greece and are more than highly please and satisfied with our experience. They planned an amazing itinerary, booked amazing hotels, hired knowledgeable tour guides and arranged high quality transportation services. Everyone went above and beyond to please us. We are already planning a trip for next year (2024) and will definitely use Indus to do so.
