Tour Overview
Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), the world’s third-highest mountain, forms Nepal’s eastern border with India’s Sikkim. The meaning of Kanchenjunga in the Tibetan name is ‘five great treasures of snow’ which hints at the magnificent mountain views that await. The Kanchenjunga North Base Camp( Pangpema Base Camp) trek offers views of sensational snow-clad Himalayan peaks plus a landscape of subtropical land, rhododendron forest, and alpine trees and magnificent glaciers. It starts a strenuous trek this is recommended it could be undertaken with those with previous trekking experience and a high level of physical fitness. The north side of Kanchenjunga base camp itself is situated at Pangpema (5,143m) which is a trek through the moraine of the Kanchenjunga Glacier. LOver the Kanchenjunga glacier, the base camp offers amazing views of the north face of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Nepal Peak, Gap Peak, and Yalung Kang (Kanchenjunga west 80505m). We spend one-night Lhonak/Pangpema base Camp, here to regain stamina for the return trip and take in the glorious views of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt.Janu Himal, and other surrounding Himalayan peaks. This trek is interesting to note that Mt. Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the earth (8586m) and until 1849 it was thought it was the highest, but it now lies just behind Mt. Everest (8,848m) and K2 (8,611m). This area protected by the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, and the Sacred mountain Landscape initiative of the World Wild Life Fund (WWF), here is an abundant variety of wildlife including the elusive snow leopard, red panda, black bear, to name just some of the more rare mammals. For Bird, lovers get a great opportunity to see the golden-breasted fulvetta, snow cock, and blood pheasant among others. The 19 days journey on a less crowded trail also rewards us with a unique insight into the rural Nepalese lifestyle of the country’s eastern region.
