The Lumba Sumba Pass trek is a newly opened trekking trail, so it is a relatively unknown trek. This trek connects the Kanchenjunga and Makalu region via the Lumba Sumba Pass, and trek through the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area and the Makalu Barun National Park in the eastern Himalaya part of Nepal. It can be starting a two directions: either we can start from Kanchenjunga or in Makalu. Features of this trek include the Lumba Sumba Peak (5,300m); magnificent mountain landscapes of the Makalu and Kanchenjunga ranges; different ethnic villages (Limbu, Sherpa, Rai, Gurung, Tamang); cultural heritage; endangered wildlife such as the snow leopard and red panda and major river systems. With the huge variety of landscapes and natural beauty, and it's sometimes harsh and less than good condition trails, it is no surprise that itis a strenuous trek, therefore it is recommended people tackling this trek have previous experience. During Lumba Sumba pass trek passes through scattered pockets of human habitation in the form of villages, Buddhist monasteries, Small markets, and schools, Here are days when hikers are completely alone in the wilderness, particularly on the most difficult day – when we cross through the Lumba Sumba Pass. In order to cross the high pass, the day starts very early as afternoon, due to weather conditions,/strong windy it will difficult to cross the high pass. This off the beaten track there has been sightings of snow leopards, which would certainly add new excitement to the Lumba Sumba Pass journey! After we crossing the Lumba Sumba pass, while trekking through the Arun Valley, there is a great opportunity for bird watchers to spot several unique and rare species. Day 1 : Arrival In Kathmandu (1,300M) And Transfer To Hotel.
Location: Kathmandu

After your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. At outside the Airport Terminal, a representative of Sherpa Expedition and Trekking cordially receives you and transfers to a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu at Thamel, backpackers colorful market. In the afternoon, you will be taken to the Sherpa Expedition and Trekking office for a guide introduction and final brief trip information about the trek. In the evening, explore the tourist hub, Thamel.
Day 2 : Fly From Kathmandu To Bhadrapur & Drive To Taplejung. Duration: 8-10 Hours.

Today, Early morning drive to Kathmandu airport then take a domestic flight to Bhadrapur. After landing at Bhadrapur, We'll drive the same day to Taplejung by jeep through the beautiful tea gardens of Jhapa and Illam. We stay overnight at Taplejung at the teahouse.
Day 3 : Trek From Taplejung To Mitlung (920M) Duration: 5-6 Hours.

Leaving Taplejung, we will start our trek the trail passes through beautiful cardamom fields and Alnus trees until Hangdewa village. There are small tea shops at Asangpati Tole, Gaigode Tole, and Panisar Tole that can be used for alternative accommodation as they provide homestay facilities. From here, we will trek downhill until the suspension bridge that acts as a border between Hangdewa Village and Furumbu village. A walk of 15 minutes takes us to Pawa Village. we will stop for lunch.
After having lunch, we will trek continues along the banks of Tamor River to Mitlung – a walk of around two hours. Mitlung is our today final destination. we stay overnight at local teahouse.
Day 4 : Trek From Mitlung To Chirwa (1,246M) Duration: 5-6 Hours.

Today the trek passes along the banks of Tamor River. It is pleasing trekking until Furumbu village. From Furumbu village, the trail is uphill for half an hour then descends through Ulnus and Schima Wallachian mixed forest to Siwa Bazar (950m) at Linkhim VDC. We will reach Siwa Bazaar in three hours from Mitlung.
This Bazaar is a good place for a lunch break. Siwa Bazaar is a small market with facilities like medicine stores, groceries, and a police station. After having lunch, we trek along the Tamor River until Chiruwa Village. Chiruwa Village has a small tea shop. We stay overnight at the local teahouse.
Day 5 : Trek From Chirwa To Lelep (1,687M) Duration: 5-6 Hours.

Leaving Chiruwa, We will fallow the trail along the Tamor River. There are two big stones with religious significance. We will trek passes through Ulnus trees until we reach a big landslide It takes around 30 minutes to cross.
After 2 hours of walk from Chiruwa through beautiful cardamom gardens, we arrive at Tapethok (1340m) for lunch. This is a small market with some tea shops. There is also a KCAP checkpoint at Tapethok. We will register our permit at Tapetok. Then, it is a pleasing trek for about an hour until Lelep. We stay overnight at a local teahouse.
Day 6 : Trek From Lelep To Ela Danda (2,051M) Duration: 6-7 Hours.

Leaving Lelep, we will start our trek following the Tamor River through dense forest that offers good habitat for different wildlife species. Then after we will cross a suspension bridge after a walk of about one hour from Lelep. Then, We will climb up through the pine forest for about half an hour until we reach a Buddhist monastery. From here, our trek gradually descends after about half an hour, and we reach Gowatar (1800m) for lunch. Gowatar is a small settlement with a few houses. Near this village, Here is a big stone and it is believed that only the religious people can move them. After 30 minutes of walk we reach Gowatar, this place offers spectacular views of two waterfalls about 100 meters tall. We stay overnight at the local teahouse.
Day 7 : Trek From Ela Danda To Selep Kharka (2,525M) Duration: 6-7 Hours.

Leaving Ela Danda, today our trek is pleasant as it passes through Ulnus and Rhododendron forest for about one hour until we reach a suspension bridge. After we crossing the suspension bridge, we will trek passes through dense bamboo groves. This place is popular among hikers as it is the habitat of the red panda. If you are lucky, you might catch a sight of the red panda!
We will arrive at Maguwa (2435m) for lunch. After having lunch, we will trek the trail that passes through maple and Ulnus forest. There is a big landslide on the way before we reach Selep Kharka(2525m). We stay overnight at Tent Camp.
Day 8 : Trek From Selep Kharka To Olangchung Gola (3,208M) Duration: 5-6 Hours.

Leaving Selep Kharka, we will trek through the Tamor River leading to a place called Jongim, a flat land surrounded by snow-capped hills. After two hours of walk, we reach a suspension bridge. Then we will climb uphill from the suspension bridge and reach Ramite (2685m) for lunch. \after having lunch we will climb up, then we catch the first glimpse of Olangchung Gola from the beautiful waterfall. After climbing 45 minutes we finally reach the Olangchung Gola.
This is a beautiful Sherpa village with around 45 houses, a 465 years old monastery with a golden manuscript and KCAP office. We will set up our tent for an overnight stay.
Day 9 : Trek From Olangchung Gola To Upper Langmale (3,893M) Duration: 6-7 Hours.

From Olangchung Gola, we trek towards will pass through complete wilderness. The trek passes through pine and rhododendron forests. After two hours walk, we will reach a place called Jadak (3630m) for lunch. Then we trek of another valley towards Lumba Samba three hours on rhododendron and mixed forests take us to reach Upper Langmale. We set up our camp for Overnight stay.
Day 10 : Trek From Upper Langmale To Pass Camp (4,747M) Duration: 6-7 Hours.

Today our trek can be interesting as snow leopards have been sighted numerous times from this trek. We will trek runs along the small riverside lies dense rhododendron forest. After three hours of walk, we reach Tangchetar (4200m) for lunch. from where we head off to Pass Camp.
Day 11 : Trek From Pass Camp To Chaurikharka (4,595M) Duration: 6-7 Hours.

Today trek would most difficult yet most memorable day of this trek. we will trek the trail that passes through the Lumba Sumba Pass (5200m). It is also better to start early as it will be difficult to cross the passing afternoon because of strong wind. After 30 minutes walk from Pass Camp, we reach the Lumba Sumba Pass which offers panoramic Himalayan views of eastern Nepal including Mt. Kanchenjunga, Jannu Himal, and Makalu ranges. We set up our camp for overnight stay.
Day 12 : Trek From Chaurikharka To Thudam (3,500M) Duration: 6-7 Hours.

after having breakfast, today our trek is downhill from Yakkharka as we arrive at civilization after tiring walk for three days. A six hours of the walk take us to Thudam village. Thudam is a small isolated village with around 30 houses of Sherpa people. We set up our camp for overnight stay.
Day 13 : Trek From Thudam To Kharka (2,877M) Duration: 6-7 Hours.

Leaving Thudam we trek along the bank of Chujung Khola. The paths offer a panoramic view of peaks in the Makalu range. On our trail, we will see a lot of small bushes and bamboo groves – the best habitat for the red panda. After trekking through many ups and downs hills we reach to Kharka for the camp overnight stay.
Day 14 : Trek From Kharka To Chyamthang (2,229M) Duration: 6-7 Hours.

After having breakfast, we trek the trail that passes through dense rhododendron forest. As there are no villages on the route and also there are numerous side trails. After three hours of walk from Khara, we reach a place called Chaurikharka for lunch. From here, we can clearly see Chyamtang, Arun River. After having lunch, the trail heads downhill for about three hours until we reach Arun River. Then after we cross the suspension bridge over the Arun, we will walk uphill for about an hour to reach Chyamthang.
Day 15 : Trek From Chyamthang To Hatiya (1,595M) Duration: 5-6 Hours.

We will fallow the trail that passes through the rhododendron forest from Chyamthang takes us to Gimber Village and we will stop for lunch here. This village offers a spectacular view of snowcapped peaks in the Makalu range. From here, we will walk through the easy, trail to reach Hatiya for the night’s stay. Hatiya – a small village of Bhote people. We will spend our night at Tent Camp.
Day 16 : Trek From Hatiya To Gola. Duration: 5-6 Hours.

Today we will trek along the banks of Arun River. After two and half hours of walk from Hatiya, we reach the confluence of the Arun and Barun rivers. After having lunch near the river confluence, We trek progress toward Gola for our final destination for the day.
Day 17 : Trek From Gola To Gadhi (1,800M) Duration: 5-6 Hours.

After having breakfast, today trek passes through paddy fields that we are at lowlands now. Our trek is pleasing as the trail makes a short descent but again makes a short climb. after two and half hours of walk from Gola, we reach Pathibhara for lunch. After having lunch, the trail passes through agricultural land and we can find plenty of water sources and small settlements along the route. We reach Gadhi for overnight stay.
Day 18 : Trek From Gadi To Num & Drive To Tumlingtar (400M) Duration: 5-6 Hours.

Today is the last day of our trek. We will From Gadhi, the trek is about an hour downhill till the Arun River. After crossing the river, we will climb 2 hours to reach the Num village. from Num, we will take a jeep drive to Tumlingtar. A drive of around 4 hours on dirt road takes us to Tumlingtar for overnight stay.
Day 19 : Fly From Tumlingtar To Kathmandu (1350) Duration: 45 Minutes Flight.

After breakfast, we will take a flight from Tumlingtar to Kathmandu. You can enjoy the evening strolling around the tourist hubs Thamel in Kathmandu. In this evening Sherpa Expedition and Trekking provide your farewell dinner.
Day 20 - Final Departure Day.

Today is your last day in Nepal you will drive to Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight departure. Sherpa Expedition and Trekking team will then share our goodbyes and wish you a safe flight back home. With this, the trip concludes and you come to an end of the Lumba Sumba Pass Trekking.
