We’ll then head back downwards towards our third campsite, coming down from the chillier altitudes towards the more humid climates of the Amazon jungle via the impressive Intipata archaeological site! Today calls for a very early start (but it’s definitely worth it) as we ascend for breathtaking views over Machu Picchu – one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and a highlight you won’t forget!
Not sure what Machu Picchu is? It’s an Incan citadel set on top of a mountain peak high in the Andes. Built in the 15th century, it served as a royal estate and ceremonial centre before being abandoned during the Spanish conquest. It became forgotten and overgrown for over 400 years before being rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in the early 20th century.
Afterwards, we’ll start our journey back to Cusco, where you’ll have the evening free to relax and explore at your own pace. Why not opt to treat yourself to a massage? Your muscles will thank you for it!
Day 12 : Cusco: Explore Sacsayhuamán

After your grand expedition into the Andes, today calls for some well-earned rest! So, this morning is yours to enjoy as you please in this beautiful, vibrant city. Connecting Cusco and Puno, this is one of Peru’s most beautiful journeys, showcasing breathtaking Andean landscapes, ancient ruins, and cultural landmarks. Along the way, it’ll also give you a chance to explore one of Peru’s most stunning natural landscapes – Rainbow Mountain! A short hike of around an hour and a half will take you up this incredible peak, so named for its stunning multi-coloured earth formed by previous tectonic activity. Make sure your camera is charged for this one!
We’ll then hike back down before we continue onto Puno, arriving in the early evening. Here, you’ll then have some free time to familiarise yourself with this stunning town on the shores of the iconic Lake Titicaca.

Come evening, we’ll top it all off with a cable car ride, which offers incredible views of the city and snow-capped Andes in the backdrop.
Day 16 : La Paz: Death Road Biking & Local Culture
Location: Uyuni Salt Flat
Accommodation: Overnight Lie-Flat Bus
Are you an adrenaline junkie? Today you have the option to mountain bike across what is known as the World’s Most Dangerous Road. It’s renowned for its descent through lush valleys and stunning landscapes. However, with vertical drops of up to 1000m over the cliff, it’s got the nickname ‘Death Road’.
We (of course) partner with a local company which puts safety first always, allowing you to enjoy this cycle of a lifetime in a controlled and safe way!

We’ll begin the tour in Uyuni with a visit to the Train Cemetery – home to old, abandoned locomotives from Bolivia’s mining era rust in the desert. Then, head to the world-famous Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flat in the world, featuring surreal mirror-like reflections during the rainy season and endless white expanses under a clear sky.
Continue to Incahuasi Island, also known as Fish Island, where giant cacti grow amidst the expansive white salt flats, before enjoying a picnic lunch with some of the greatest panoramic views you’ll ever witness (in our eyes anyway).
After lunch, you’ll get to explore more of the salt flats, taking perspective-bending photos (don’t worry, your Adventure Leader will explain) on the vast, flat, white terrain. Wind down for a relaxing evening with your fellow travel buddies in a guesthouse in the middle of the desert.
Day 18 : Uyuni Salt Flats Tour: Desert & Flamingo-Filled Lagoons
Location: Uyuni Salt Flat

It’s then time to leave Bolivia, bound for our fourth and final country – as we cross the Bolivian-Chilean border at Hito Cajón and continue into Chile, descending into the Atacama Desert. We’ll arrive in San Pedro de Atacama, where you’ll have the evening to relax and unwind.

While you get acquainted, grab a mug of mate, a traditional Argentina herbal tea. We’ll outline travel plans and top tips on staying safe during your while you’re here.
After, it’s time to continue your adventure in true Argentinian style – with a tango lesson at a milonga, a local dance party. Guided by skilled instructors, you’ll learn precise steps, connection (the silent, shared language between partners), and overall musicality, before moving to the social dance floor to practice your newly acquired dance skills.

This tour starts in Medellin, Colombia and ends in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Throughout, all your local travel is included, excluding airport transfers.
-
What is the accommodation used on this tour?
On this incredible adventure, you’ll be based largely in hostels. However, throughout this tour there are also times – on treks, hikes, and tours – when you’ll be camping. Examples of these are the Peru trekking adventure (see ‘Trekking Alternatives’ for more information on individual accommodation information for itinerary options), 1 night on a sleeper bus from La Paz, Bolivia, as well as two nights in guesthouses during the Salt Flats tour. All of the hostels we use are clean, comfortable, and well-located. In them, you’ll have all bedding provided for you, so no need to bring anything extra! In addition, you’ll spend one night camping on the Acatenango Volcano hike. Some of the accommodation you might stay in includes: Los Patios (Medellín) Viajero Hostel (Salento) Viajero Hostel (Cali) Cranky Croc Hostel (Bogotá) Pariwana Hostel Cusco (Cusco) Kantaya Hostel (Puno) Wild Rover La Paz Hostel (La Paz) Rural – La Florida Hostel (San Pedro de Atacama) Viajero Buenos Aires Hostel (Buenos Aires) Antarctica Hostel (Ushuaia, Patagonia) Tucan Hostel (Iguazú) O de Casa Hostel (São Paulo) Ipanema Beach Hostel (Rio de Janeiro) ...more ...less

What are the Inca Trail Trkking Alternatives?
Below is key information on the trekking portion our Peruvian adventure – it’s important that you make sure you’re aware of this at the time of booking. Please read it carefully, and feel free to reach out to us if you’d like to know anything in more detail than is provided here. The Inca Trail & Alternative Trek Routes Our 4-day, 3-night Machu Picchu trek follows the Inca Trail. However, Inca Trail permits are incredibly limited and will typically sell out around 4-6 months in advance of the date. Our first option will always be to secure these permits – however, if these are unavailable, we will work to secure permits for the Salkantay Trek, which is an alternative route to Machu Picchu lasting the same length of time – just following a different route. Whereas the Inca Trail trek is involves camping on all three nights, one night of the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu will include one night in a hotel in Aguas Calientes (shared rooms). The route for this trek is typically more adventurous, and takes you through higher altitudes, as you’ll be heading past the stunning Humantay and Salkantay Mountains. However, the end destination is the same: Machu Picchu! All trek permits and Machu Picchu entry tickets are regulated, and non-refundable once booked. These are issued on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be transferred to another traveller. We’ll require a valid passport to book these permits – and it must be the same one when you travel as you used at the time of booking. Due to permit limitations, high demand, and different booking timelines, even if you and your group members book the same trek, there is no guarantee that you’ll be visiting Machu Picchu at the same time. We’ll always work to ensure this where possible, but there are different entry slots each day – depending on availability, you and your group may be assigned different times. In addition, the entire complex operates with designated visitor circuits designed to help manage crowds. Once inside, you’ll be assigned one of three circuits – again, this may differ from the rest of your group. However, whichever circuit you’re on, you’re guaranteed an equally unforgettable visit! All of these treks and tours are managed with the help of partner operators, meaning you may be joined by other travellers – however, this ensures that you’ll always have a local guide, alongside our dedicated customer service, throughout your journey. However, if you are booked onto different time slots or circuits once arriving at Machu Picchu, you may be doing so without your guide present on your exact circuit. In this circumstance, they’ll provide you with everything you need to know – and a detailed briefing – in advance, so that you can make the most of your visit. You’ll then regroup with your fellow Dragons to head back to Cusco. Non-Trekking Alternative There is a non-trekking alternative to our 4-day Andean hike portion of the tour – you can either request this if you don’t want to partake in the trek expedition, or we’ll default to this variation of the trekking days in the event that permits for both the Inca Trail and the Salkantay Trek are unsecurable. In this iteration of our tour, you’ll spend an additional 2 nights in Cusco, followed by a 2-day, 1-night Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tour. If you’re not a fan of tents – this means no camping! On Day 10, we’ll also swap the hostel for a hotel the night before you visit Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley. If you choose (or the tour you’re booked onto is operating on) this itinerary, your time in Cusco will be unguided – however, you’ll have options to take part in walking tours, a Peruvian cooking class, or a chocolate-making workshop! If you’d like to know more about these additional extras, reach out to us via email. Don’t fret, however! Cusco is a beautiful, safe place to explore on your own watch, which offers plenty of opportunity for you to get under the skin of this stunning city at a pace that suits you. In addition, our local support team will always be on hand remotely to provide recommendations and assistance. ...more ...less

Do you operate a “single share” option and how does it work?
Majority of our clients are solo travellers and our prices are based on sharing in dorm style rooms. We do offer single room upgrades for those who do not wish to share a room.
-
Can you guarantee same-sex dorm rooms?
We always strive to ensure the highest level of comfort and convenience for our valued clients during their travels with us. However, for our tours in Asia, we cannot guarantee same-sex dorm rooms in the hostels we use, particularly during high season, such as the cherry blossom season in Japan. Please rest assured that we do our utmost to accommodate our clients' preferences wherever possible. However, the availability of same-sex dorm rooms ultimately depends on the policies of the hostels we work with. In some cases, different genders may be allocated to the same room due to limited availability.

We want your travel experience to be enjoyable and fulfilling, and we believe that selecting a tour that matches your age group and interests is crucial in achieving that. Our tours are very active and jam-packed, including early starts and getting on and off local transportation. There will be a lot of walking, and activities such as cycling. You could be walking up to 20,000 steps per day!
-
Who will be my travelling companions on the tour?
Our tours are aimed at fun, out-going and open minded individuals. We typically get people aged between 18 to 55 travelling on our trips. Feel free to contact us to see the ages of the people who are booked already. Some of our trips have an upper age limit because of the pace of the tour, style of accommodation and the average age of the group - please do not be offended if we check your age and perhaps recommend a different itinerary. Our premium trips are suitable for most.
