Day 1 : Arrive Cetinje

Location: Cetinje

Accommodation: Pansion 22 or similar

Accommodation Name: Accommodation in Cetinje

Arrival in Cetinje (by public transport or optional private transfer from Dubrovnik, Podgorica or Tivat Airport). A welcome meeting at your hotel with our local representative, where there will be an introduction to the tour, tour documents (maps, hotel vouchers) will be handed out, and rental bike fittings will take place (if booked). Cetinje is the old royal capital of Montenegro. A city tour or sightseeing tour by bike offers you a glimpse into the history of Montenegro. Visit the monastery of Cetinje, the embassy buildings or maybe the papier-mache relief of Montenegro – where you can visualize and plan out your tour.

Day 2 : Cetinje – Lake Skadar – Virpazar 39 Km

Location: Lake Skadar

Accommodation: Guesthouse in Virpazar (Vida’s House or similar)

Accommodation Name: Accommodation in Virpazar

Meals Included: Breakfast

Today’s tour takes you to the biggest lake of the Balkan peninsula, Lake Skadar. You will ride for approximately 1 km on the main road, before turning off onto the old road that connects Cetinje with Rijeka Crnojevica. This road runs steadily downhill (15.5 km) – through villages and past beautiful panorama points – to Rijeka Crnojevica, the place where the first book of the Western Balkans was printed. Today, Rijeka Crnojevica is a sleepy village with a few inviting restaurants for visitors to grab a bite and take a rest. With renewed strength, you will first ride along the lake, and then uphill for about 3 km through other villages until you reach Virpazar. There will be some other minor ascents, which will often be rewarded with wonderful panoramic views of the lake. Finally, a descent takes you to Virpazar, where you will spend the night. Virpazar is the centre of the most famous wine region of Montenegro, where the renowned Vranac wine is produced. This wine pairs perfectly with the fish specialities from this lakeside town.

Day 3 : Virpazar – Stari Bar 30 Km

Location: Stari Bar

Accommodation: Guesthouse in Stari Bar (Kula Boutique or similar)

Accommodation Name: Accommodation in Stari Bar

Meals Included: Breakfast

Before the construction of the railway tunnel through Mount Rumija in the late 1960s, Podgorica was connected with the port of Bar by a narrow-gauge railway. To that end, the wagons were transported by ship to Virpazar – from one side of the lake to the other. Today, you will follow this former railway track that takes you, in a comfortable ascent, to the pass. From there you enjoy a thrilling downhill ride, with a great view of the Adriatic Sea. You’ll end today’s tour by riding through old olive groves to Stari Bar, where you will spend the night. Stari Bar is the old town of Bar, situated in picturesque surroundings on the slopes of Mount Rumija. If you like, you can also explore the modern part of Bar that is situated directly on the coast.

Day 4 : Stari Bar – Rashtish Village

Location: Bar

Accommodation: Guesthouse in the village of Rashtish (Pension Panorama or similar)

Accommodation Name: Accommodation in the village of Rashtish

Meals Included: Breakfast

You will start today’s tour directly from your accommodation. Along the road, you’ll see groves of olive trees, some over 2 000 years old. On a secondary road above the Adriatic, you will ride through the olive groves around Bar, the “olive oil capital” of Montenegro. You will be treated with beautiful views riding through a vast valley to the main road Ulcinj – Shkodra. Follow this road a few kilometres. Before reaching your accommodation, you’ll have the chance to visit Šas Lake, a bird paradise. There are also ruins of a medieval city located nearby, which are certainly worth a detour for those who are interested. The uphill ride to the accommodation will be rewarded with a stunning panorama. Overnight stay in a guesthouse with a restaurant attached.

Day 5 : Skadar Lake National Park – Lovcen National Park

Location: Skadar Lake National Park

Accommodation: Hotel

Accommodation Name: Accommodation in Lovcen National Park

Meals Included: Breakfast

A wonderful but challenging panoramic tour with three major awaits you today. You’ll first follow a narrow road above Skadar Lake. You will pass through vineyards, villages, and you will enjoy wonderful views of the lake with the dramatic Albanian Alps in the background at numerous points. Around the village of Ostros, you will ride through majestic, centuries-old chestnut groves. Some of the sights that you will see today include the small monastery islands near the village of Murici as the Montenegrin “Alcatraz” a former prison dating back to the time of King Nikola in front of the village of Godinje. In Godinje, a traditional wine region, you will have the chance to regain your strength before the last ascent on your way to Virpazar. This is where you will be picked up and transferred to Lovcen National Park, located above the Bay of Kotor. Travel time is approximately 1 hour. Your accommodation is in the heart of the National Park, at a refreshing altitude of 1300 m above sea level in a cosy hotel.

Day 6 : Lovcen National Park – Kotor

Location: Kotor

Accommodation: Hotel, Hotel

Accommodation Name: Accommodation in Kotor

Meals Included: Breakfast

Today’s tour takes you directly from the mountains to the sea along the famous Austro-Hungarian serpentine road, with the most beautiful panoramic views in the Bay of Kotor. You will start from your hotel in the National Park. (If you like and for those who are really fit, you can also bike the last 200 altitude meters uphill to the mausoleum of the most important historical figure of Montenegro – Petar Petrovic Njegoš – before descending the “Serpentine Road”). At the observation platform, you will enjoy a breathtaking all-around view, from which you can see just about the entire country of Montenegro. As soon as you have conquered the initial ascent, you will cruise downhill for more than 30 km. Along the road, there will be several great spots to stop for photos. You finish your tour directly in front of the old town of Kotor and your accommodation. Enjoy the Mediterranean atmosphere in the centre of Kotor.

Day 7 : Bay Of Kotor

Location: Bay of Kotor

Accommodation: Hotel

Accommodation Name: Accommodation in Kotor

Meals Included: Breakfast

At the end of your bike trip, you can explore the picturesque sights in the Bay of Kotor. Don’t miss the baroque sailor’s town of Perast with its two church islands. If you bike a few kilometres further you will reach Risan, the oldest settlement of the Bay, where Roman mosaics and rock paintings from the Neolithic Stone Age, bear witness to this settlement’s history. Near Morinj there is a small beach where you can relax. If you pedal further along the coastline, you reach the ferry, which can transport you to the other shore. Once again, you can count on a beautiful route, directly along the sea.

19-Sep-2022

Walking Fishermens trail in western Portugal will be a memory for life. We loved every minute of our week. All arrangements worked perfectly, from accommodation to luggage transport to questions we had before setting off. Our local agent met with us before we started the walk and we felt very reassured by his local knowledge and support. All accommodation was different, local, clean, friendly and easy to find. Very good value for money. I can really recommend Natural Adventure company and we will be back for more adventures. Many thanks Kicki Neely and friends

25-Jan-2024

A friend and I did the Alps to the Riviera walk in France at the end of 2021 and it was the best holiday experience either of us has ever had. It’s an amazing way of immersing oneself in the countryside and getting the full flavour of the country away from the tourist attractions. The Natural Adventure Company made perfect arrangements for us, gave us clear directions and was just a call away, to sort out any issues. The walk gave us incredible memories that will enrich us for a lifetime. I am in the process of booking my next wonderful adventure and I can’t wait to get started!

26-Jul-2024

I recently hiked, with a friend in the Italian Alps (the Val D'Aosta) and can highly recommend the region, and the Natural Adventure company. We were very pleased with the accommodation and the food was excellent most of the time- generous portions of excellent local dishes. The resources we were sent were excellent and very thorough. It was very easy to follow the routes as we were given so much detail- which we printed out and took each day's instructions with us, and the App helped to keep us on track. Sadly, we couldn't stay at the last location because there was a storm one night and the village we were due to stay in was flooded and cut off. The Natural Adventure did all they could to support us immediately, and help us find an alternative and we ended up staying where we were, as we were so pleased with that hotel and knew we could continue our hikes from there. We were very pleased with the holiday, the walks, the info and all our dealings with them. I would highly recommend them

15-Jul-2024

We booked our self-guided Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trip in Japan with The Natural Adventure (known locally as Oku Japan). The experience was top notch from beginning to end. The information packet was thorough and helpful, and details regarding trains and local buses (timetables, pricing, etc) were consistently accurate. Each and every accommodation was unique, charming, and welcoming. When there was an issue checking into our final hotel, the local office was quick to respond and the problem was solved within the hour (it was also a Sunday, so extra points). We weren’t expecting this to be a gourmet food tour of the region, but it was that as well! On top of it all, we found the price very reasonable for everything that is included. We had a wonderful experience thanks to The Natural Adventure, and would certainly travel with them again.

26-Feb-2024

I have been working with The Natural Adventure for a few years now and it's been a flawless experience. I have now booked 4 different trips (4th to happen in April 2023). Accomodations have been great and local operators (bikes, hiking guides and boats) have all been great. The rates are very fair and trip selections are great. Hoping to see some boat bike options in Greece and Turkey!

Great communications, customized trip

20-Aug-2022

This is our first time using Natural Adventure to plan a hiking trip in Europe. I wanted an 8-day hike to start on a certain date to explore a northern region of Portugal. They were so accommodating - customized our trip to meet our needs with responsive communications and full itinerary; everything has been taken care of. We look forward to the trip!!

We hiked the Kerry Way with Natural Adventure and it was terrific. Outstanding views and good Irish weather. Some days were longer than expected due to placement of Bed and Breakfasts. Hosts were warm and helpful even dried our gear and shared local secrets. Irish hospitality in high gear.

14-Sep-2023

My wife and I booked the Lechweg short break hike with the natural adventure company this Fall and we’re very happy with our experience. I noticed one of the reviews questioning what they (natural adventure co) provide. That’s a fair question and from my perspective as a USA citizen, they provided a very important liaison/conduit role into the EU that would be prohibitive or downright impossible for a non EU citizen hiking/biking in Europe. In addition, I have found that in dealing directly with a few European companies directly, information does not always flow as smoothly as we like. The natural adventure company’s communication style fit our liking perfectly in that we receive a fast and thorough response with every question. They are prompt and helpful. They did subcontract with another company for boots on the ground support but the hotel reservations and itinerary were in house. We would definitely use the natural adventure company again no question.

All the way through from booking, correspondence afterwards and now a wonderful holiday. The Natural Adventure have been helpful and have provided a brilliant holiday. Really poor experience with my...

30-Jul-2024

Really poor experience with my recent Tour Du Mont Blanc trip. Our company contact Pierre was so unprofessional and did not care about the safety of travelers. On the second day he left to do a hike and we didn’t hear back until multiple days later. I experienced multiple travel delays which meant the loss of the prepaid travel arrangements and their solution was a 250 euro taxi to the hotel. Do not recommend.
