Loved the bike trip and the hotels we stayed in. I never had to use the map as we had 2 people who were very adept at using the gps instructions that were sent

Our bicycle trip to the Loire Valley was fantastic! The weather was a perfect 70 degrees and no rain for the duration (early June). The routes were established cycle paths, so we felt very safe and rarely traveled alongside cars. The bikes were lovely, and no punctures were suffered. We went with the basic hotels and enjoyed some of the half-timbered and more rustic accommodations. The hotel food was fantastic at each establishment! Luggage was transferred and waiting for us each afternoon. The only small problem we encountered was with the mapping app. On the first day of cycling we realized that it often lagged and couldn't keep up with where we were, making travel slow and tedious as we waited at intersections to see if we should turn. That first night we transferred all of our routes to "Ride With GPS," an app we have used before. "Ride With GPS" had no trouble and even speaks aloud while riding, much like "Google Maps," so that you are warned of each turn ahead of time. Travel was smooth after that! ...more ...less

We found that most of the trails were off road and very scenic. We thought the tracking app was very good and we found the accommodation very clean and comfortable.

We had a great 8 day Loire Valley bike tour. The bikes were very good with an easy collection, fit out and departure. A minor problem with one of the bikes was quickly resolved with a phone call. Paper maps were provided but not adequate, however, the RoadBook app was very good and essential. Trip and route notes were also provided which were helpful. Accommodation was very good but be prepared to carry your suitcase up many stairs. Overall, this trip is recommended ...more ...less

Most hotels were ok but I am glad we upgraded as even some of those were very basic. Most breakfasts were reasonable, my friend is gluten free and most places provided for her. In Ambroise they had gluten free bread first day and none second. Most places did not cater to my caffeine allergy so I carried my own herbal teas. The riding was great and the bikes were very good. The mixture of scenery was good, we never did find the winery we were headed to. The app wasn't that great. Only told you you were wrong after you turned so you had to backtrack. It was very difficult to see on your phone when riding so lots of stops to look ahead where to go. All in all a good fun 8 days. ...more ...less
