Grading

The walking is introductory to moderate (2) grade with daily walks between 3 and 4 hours. The accent is on keeping a steady pace with time to stop and take photos (subject to weather conditions). You will need a reasonable level of fitness to participate fully in this adventure. We recommend that you have some previous experience of trekking.
Waymarking - there are no official walking trails maintained by the government in Puglia nor waymarking. We have carefully constructed walking routes on mainly dirt paths and along rural trails but from time to time the farmers who also use these tracks may asphalt them. The maps are not of the same standard you would find in other walking destinations. However the countryside is wonderfully suited for walking and carefully reviewing the notes and visualising the route before you set out will optimise your walking and navigational experience.

Well constructed trip. Maps (PDF and GPX files) worked well with the instructions provided in the guide. Didn't really need the vouchers provided as all of the service providers knew who we were.

Fantastic walking tour! Downloaded all the gps files to GPX viewer which worked very well! We loved Otranto and the walk along the coast -- the sea was beautiful and 3 trains to get there was worth it. Ostuni was another highlight and we enjoyed the walk in the olive groves. Had the best pizza in Alberobello -- Pinsa. Valle D'Itria was spectacular. Everything went as planned, only one delayed train. We added on days before in Naples and a few days after on the Amalfi Coast. Southern Italy is wonderful! ...more ...less

This trip was well organised in a beautiful part of the world. Due to extreme heat, we altered the timing of our walks and transfers every day, and it was never a problem. The accommodation was fantastic and the 2 dinners provided were excellent. A wonderful experience. ...more ...less

Walking in Puglia

11 May 2018

Our trip worked out very well many thanks. The accommodation was always very interesting and pleasant and in central locations that allowed us easy access to wandering around the towns we stayed in, Lecce, Ostuni, Alberobello and Matera. The four walks allowed us to view many birds and flowers. The walk you gave from Alberobello to Locorotondo gave us a hint of the orchids we might see and they were in abundance pretty much along the whole of the Aqueduct. But we were immediately charmed by the sound of Wood warblers and Golden Oriole as we entered the woodland at the start. The walk on the coast at Otranto provided many of the smaller migrating birds feeding on the coastal meadows and flying over. None of these walks took the estimated time as we were too busy looking at the wildlife, which we had hoped to see, marvellous for us. The food & wines delicious and accommodation and towns interesting and fun. ...more ...less

Our room in Matera was pretty basic but others had good rooms so that is just the luck of the draw. The breakfasts at each accommodation were fabulous. Really appreciated having local food.
