What You Carry

In your daypack you will need to carry extra warm clothing (depending on the altitude, location and weather), a rainjacket, water bottle, camera gear, valuables and personal items such as sunscreen, lip-eze etc. Porters carry all group gear and your trek pack.

Grading

To determine the grade of a particular adventure we consider a number of factors. These include the condition of the walking terrain, the altitude, the number of pass crossings and the length of the trek. The Annapurna Trek is graded introductory. This is primarily due to the low altitude gains and the condition of the trail which is well defined and not unduly demanding. During the trek you will be walking for up to five to six hours a day at a slow but steady pace. You will need a reasonable level of fitness (remember there is no such thing as an easy trek) and we suggest 30 minutes of aerobic type exercise, (either cycling or jogging) three times a week for the three months leading up to your trek. Hill walking with a daypack in variable weather conditions is also recommended.

Mode of Transport

The tour includes a scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara and return, as well as private vehicle transportation for transfers and drives between trekking locations. Porters are available to carry personal and group equipment throughout the trek.

It is recommended to engage in 30 minutes of aerobic exercise, such as cycling or jogging, three times a week for three months prior to the trek.

  • Who will be my travelling companions on the tour?

We have offices on three continents which means your travelling companions will be just that – international and wonderfully eclectic. Part of small group travel means that although travellers come from various locations and backgrounds, you will be travelling with like-minded companions who, like you, are keen to share the experience and forge lifelong friendships.

  • What about environmental impact?

We believe that adventure travel revolves around establishing a strong relationship with the people and environments in which we operate. Our responsible travel policies have been carefully developed to ensure that we minimise the impact of our presence and help to protect the regions we visit while contributing positively to the local community.

  • What should I pack?

Your pre-departure documents include a detailed packing list with items that you need to bring. While most of the equipment for daily activities is included in your tour cost, some items like helmets and hiking boots are best brought from home. The pre-departure documents also include information on layering and recommended brands for various items to ensure you are fully prepared for your trip.

  • Do you operate a “single share” option and how does it work?

Yes. World Expeditions does not require single travellers to pay a surcharge for travelling alone on the vast majority of our trips. Our holidays are primarily on a twin share basis, so if you are joining the group as a solo traveller, we will match you with someone of your own gender. The choice is yours however; if you prefer not to share, we do offer single supplements for private occupancy.

  • Are tips included in my trip price?

Tips are not included in the tour cost. Tipping is a personal thing, do not worry about how much, or when, to tip. Tipping guidelines are provided for certain destinations in our pre departure information upon booking, however the best advice will be provided by your tour leader.

  • Am I suited to small-group travel?

We recognise that many of our travellers have not been on a ‘group trip’ before. Yet what our departures provide is both structure and flexibility, allowing you plenty of freedom within the framework of the itinerary. You’ll find that with our maximum group size at 16, you’ll travel in a minimal impact style with a great group of like-minded travellers.

  • Can you advise which vaccinations are recommended?

While our pre-departure kit provides information on vaccinations, we suggest that you consult your doctor, local government inoculation centre or a travel medical specialist in order to get the most current advice regarding vaccination requirements.

Amazing experience. We were treated royally, from the morning tea, to the stories and interpretations on the trail from our guide.

It was a fabulously immense experience. For me it was a wholesome experience of the mind, body and emotion. The awesome mountains around me during the trek was mind cleansing and putting one's life into perspective. My body was challenged and achieved with personal satisfaction. The people I came across in the villages during each trek and the Sherpas with me stirred emotions which bonded us and parting with all of them left me sad and empty. Divorced last year, this trip gave me a new outlook in my life! What an awesome experience!

My wife and I had a wonderful trek in the Annapurna region. We are both 80 but fit and the route was designed to be less exacting than on our last visit to the same area. This allowed ample time to look at the flowering Rhododendrons and other flowers, chat to villagers and savour life as lived in the Himalayas.

We had a fantastic time. We are very grateful for all the extra effort our trek Chef, Padam Rai went to, to cater for our dietary requirements (vegan and gluten free). We thought we'd be eating 3 meals of dal bhat every day, but instead he made extra dishes for us and every single meal was superb!! (He even made special gluten free momo's!). I am going to try making his delicious buckwheat roti when I go home. His presence on the trek was also really appreciated, and I wish I knew how to speak Nepali so I could have talked with him more, and properly thanked him.

This was my fourth trek with World Expeditions and like my previous trips, their standard of excellence was maintained. There were only 4 trekkers (including me) plus our guide Dilli and his team, who were all superb. The scenery on this trek was magnificent and we were so fortunate with great weather which added to our enjoyment. I liked the combination of eco camping and staying in the eco lodges where we met other trekkers an shared their experiences. Our WE team provided terrific food and I could not believe how well I felt after 6 days without coffee, alcohol and only a limited amount of meat! The Annapurna trek although graded introductory cannot be termed ‘easy’ and a certain amount of fitness is required to cope with the many steps -up and down! Although I am 72, I found the trek exhilarating and now am keen to perhaps tackle the Annapurna Base camp trek as I was blown away by the beauty of the Annapurnas. In short, this is a trek I can highly recommend, with a company who pride themselves on great staff at every level.

The ‘Annapurna Trek’ is the hallmark trek for alpine trekking almost anywhere in the world and is a must-do for anyone who loves alpine scenery. The trek would not disappoint anyone for scenic value and World Expeditions have complimented the walk with excellent local staff and a good choice of accommodations and catering. I would not expect to walk in this part of the world in greater comfort and with less hardship. World Expeditions have finely polished this ‘Jewel in the Crown’ of alpine treks that provides participants with life-long memories of magnificent mountain grandeur. I am glad I did it with World Expeditions, I had really excellent experiences.

A fantastic experience, from the 2 days spent in Nepal - a vibrant, colourful and culturally interesting experience to the splendor of Himalayas, this was a wonderful trip. Extremely well organised, especially for a solo traveller, with a great guide and friendly, helpful staff. The food was fantastic, all carried and cooked by the team. Highly recommended.
