Tour Overview

This kind of tour is for the people who enjoy being outdoors, exploring traditional cultures and meeting people who follow a different way of life. To understand and appreciate Bhutan, it’s best to go slowly, visiting places which cannot be reached by motor roads, away from tour buses and groups. We will organize some meetings with Rinpoches and Buddhist masters residing in Bhutan. Meet monks, Anims (nuns), Gomchens (married spiritual person), living inside the huge and impressive castle-like Dzongs, temples or simple hay hermitage. You will also get an opportunity part-take in special religious ceremonies performed in private homes or temples as you tour the countryside. Participants will gain a unique insight into traditional Bhutan, beyond the standard tourist routes, and an insider’s view of the legendary country, which is constantly compared to Shangri La. The hikes include small villages, temples and spectacular scenic sites, places where Bhutan’s Buddhist traditions and historic way of life can be deeply experienced. The leisurely pace affords the chance to absorb the peaceful atmosphere and rich beauty of this most remote Himalayan kingdom during the blissful days of autumn, when days are usually crisp, sunny and bright. Roam the historic Thimphu and Paro valleys, then cross high passes into the beautiful valleys of central Bhutan. This special and unique tour is for active, enthusiastic travelers, who may not want to trek, but who enjoy going beyond the usual brief look at a new culture; this is an ideal way to get to know the Dragon Kingdom with a balance of comfort and activity.

within Paro district. Paro town (2,280m) is still a small with one main street and less than one
hundred small family-run shops. The weekend market in Paro is held on Saturdays.
After check-in to hotel and getting freshen up visit :
Kyichu Lhakhang: Tibetan King Songtsen Gompo in the 7th century miraculously built 108
temples, along with Jorkhang in Lhasa. Kyichu is considered to be one of them and is one of the
oldest temples in Bhutan.
Dungtse Lhakhang: was constructed by the great bridge-builder Thangtong Gyelpo in 1433. It is
said to have been built on the head of demons, who was causing illness to the inhabitants. The
building was restored in 1841 and is a unique repository of Kagyu lineage. You may or may not
be permitted inside but can walk around this three-story Chorten type building.
Druk Choeding Lhakhang: It was built in 1525 by Ngawang Chogyel, one of the prince-abbots of
Ralung in Tibet and an ancestor of the Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel.

Chimi Lhakhang: a monastery and fertility temple dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kuenley, a Tibetan
Buddhist saint known popularly as “the divine madman” and considered a folk hero in Bhutan
for his unconventional ways. Drukpa Kuenley originally built a chorten on the site in the 14th
century, on which a temple was later built in 15th century. The temple, flanked by nearly 100
tall prayer flags, sits atop a picturesque hill. It has long been a pilgrimage site for childless
couples. This easy walk takes about ½ hour each way.

Wangdi is important in the history of Bhutan because in the early days it was the country's second capital. Sadly the dzong caught fire on 24 June 2012 and was virtually destroyed save for the lower walls. The mammoth task of rebuilding is expected to continue until 2021.
Legend relates that as people searched for a site for the Dzong; four ravens were seen flying away in four directions. This was considered an auspicious sign, representing the spreading of religion to the four points of the compass. After Trongsa Dzong was established in 1644, the penlop (governor) of Wangdue Phodrang became the third most powerful ruler, after Paro and Trongsa. The dzong's strategic position gave the penlop control of the routes to Trongsa, Punakha, Dagana and Thimphu.
Drive further to Limbukha village which is accessible by feeder road from Punakha and Wangdue.
Limbukha farmers are known for growing Bhutan's famous red rice which is supposed to have medicinal values. Limbukha is also known for its love of peace and tranquility. Legends say that during medieval wars the people of Limbukha always volunteered as peace negotiators. This is also depicted during annual festival when the Limbuk men are found carrying peace flags instead of swords and fireworks. In the evening, hike to Khamsum Yuley Chorten.
Khamsum Yuley Namgay Chorten was built in 1990s and took period of nearly 10 years. It was built by Queen Mother and dedicated to the King and for the well-being of Bhutanese. It majestically located on a ridge, with amazing views of the country side. It is one of the finest Bhutanese architects.
It is located in idyllic countryside north of Punakha; about 30 minutes’ drive from town. From the parking, it is another 45 minutes uphill walk through the rice fields and the return portion downhill takes around 30 minutes. After return walk back, there is an option to walk along the riverside, following the ancient trail that goes through farmlands, homes, Sonagasa village and arrive near Punakha Dzong. remains one of the least visited areas in the country and retains the air of an unspoiled,
primeval forest.

Simply the best

30-Sep-2023

I participated in the Best of Bhutan tour by World Tour Plan with a one day add on. I have visited 165 countries and have looked forward to visiting Bhutan and was not disappointed. It was a beautiful country, my favorite so far, and the itinerary was excellent as were the selected hotels. Most significantly, my guide, Tenzin, and my driver were superb. Their English was excellent and they were fun, flexible and knowledgeable. I can not recommend them more highly.

Best travel experience for a life time...

01-Sep-2024

The exciting flight to and from Bhutan, the air views of the Himalayan range is as impressive as the landing at Paro airport. Tour guide was knowledgeable, excellent driver, exceptional hotels and farm house, very friendly people in an incredibly beautiful country. The Punakha Dzong was breathtakingly beautiful. The hike to the Tiger's nest and the views through the rhododendron forests to the monastery were stunning. I enjoyed the luxury of travelling alone and not having to pay a single supplement. I could ask the driver to stop whenever I wanted to take photos and add a few stops at places I'd read about. World Tour Plan is a well-equipped company and professional in their service, we didn’t regret booking this tour with them.

They accommodated special requests such as visiting a festival or stops not listed in the itinerary. The nine day itinerary in Bhutan was perfectly planned and I truly enjoyed each and every site visited. Namgay, guide, and Yeshi, driver, were wonderful. They took care of us like family and always made sure we were well taken care of. My time in Bhutan was magical and relaxing and World Tour Plan’s expert planning, Namgay, and Yeshi ensured I had that full experience. Highly recommend!

I am just back home and felt really good choosing World Tour Plan to arrange my trip to the land of happiness - Bhutan. All the arrangement were done keeping in mind my requirements. As I had chosen to do this trip during the month of December weather was pleasant and trip went smooth. Would surely recommend this travel company “World Tour Plan” to my friend and family.

Amazing trip by World Tour Plan

30-Nov-2023

I cannot express how incredible my experience was. From booking my tour the tour experience itself, I’ve greatly appreciated all the staff who made my trip so special. The owner of World Tour Plan helped with my visa and flight and continued to answer any questions I had throughout my trip. My guide and driver were exceptional. They truly went above and beyond my expectations and took note of my interests and tailored my experience to my preferences. I cannot say enough good things, and I highly recommend this experience to anyone else who may be interested. I came to Bhutan as a tourist, and I left with so so many friends and hope to return soon. Thanks again!

Outstanding family vacation

01-Sep-2024

We had the best trip to Bhutan and our guide Tashi was wonderful. My wife, daughters (9 and 11 years old) and I saw so much of Bhutan in four days and enjoyed every minute of it from the Tiger's Nest to the Dzong in Punakha. We cannot recommend World Tour Plan enough and will DEFINITELY go through them when we come back to Bhutan and when we visit India in the future. We were treated so well and the entire trip was fun, informative and safe. Thank you World Tour Plan and Tashi. Oh, and our driver. He was steady behind the wheel and super helpful. Both were great with the kids as well. When our flight was delayed, Tashi figured out a way to squeeze in extra things here and there. When my 11 year old got sick, Tashi and our driver were very helpful to the point of the driver taking her clothes into Paro to get washed dried while we were up at the Tiger's Nest.

Excellent tour!!!

01-Sep-2024

We are back after two long week tour. Everything was way more than what we expected. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly and driver was experience at his service. We being very particular about food, we were taken to restaurant which suits our taste and ofcourse, food was taken care by us. We had a nice wonderful holiday to be precise experience for a life time. Point to note: if you are planning to visit in and around January, make sure to carry more warm clothes, hat, socks and the last two to three pair of shoes. Weather seems unpredictable.

Best tour operator in Bhutan

31-May-2024

It was a great experience travelling to Bhutan. Moreover the facilities provided by the company was excellent. The guide and the driver who came for the airport pickup was humble and had very good work ethics. They accompanied me throughout my tour in Bhutan. The hotel i halted, had best hospitality. The places i visited were very beautiful, rich in natural resources. The valleys, mountains and the rivers were breathtaking . The company had planned my visit very wisely. I got to see different ethnic group of Bhutanese people , who were very down to earth. The tour operator is very professional to have managed everything in limited time and not to forget it was worth the money. so guys you can go for WORLD TOUR PLAN , they are the best to render their service . I thank the Tour Operator of World Tour Plan for organizing the amazing trip. I enjoyed my tour. Thank you!

Our trip to eastern Bhutan...

24-May-2014

Our trip to eastern Bhutan was awesome! The world tour plan company did a great job tailoring the itinerary to us with seamless service. We did not have any issues with travel logistics. The travel company set us up with great tour guides, hotels, villas, and transfers were easy wherever we were. Suggestions were made on different places to eat and see while in the different cities and regions. Very happy with everything that the travel company did for us. It made our trip very stress free. Thanks.
